The Keys Marine Laboratory has provided a focus for valuable contributions
to the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students in Florida
and elsewhere. Classes typically use the laboratory for one to two weeks,
during
which time they utilize the classroom, wet and dry lab space, dormitory space,
and vessels for half- or full-day field trips. The KML also holds
collecting permits for small collections of many marine species. Some university
classes have used the laboratory for an entire semester. Below are short
summaries
of the KML education facilities and a list of some recent class groups
which have utilized the facilities.
Large
dry lab, air-conditioned classroom with multimedia capabilities, and computer
lab.
Wet
laboratory with holding tanks for specimens, tables, and countertop work surfaces.
2
dorms sleep 24 students total in 4 separate bedrooms with full kitchen and
laundry facilites.
Coral
reef, mangroves, hard bottom and sea grass habitats are all within a short
trip from KML.
Experienced
boat captains can take as many as 18 passengers to local habitats for snorkeling,
trawling, and/or wading.
