The Keys Marine Laboratory has provided a focus for valuable contributions to the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students in Florida and elsewhere. Classes typically use the laboratory for one to two weeks, during which time they utilize the classroom, wet and dry lab space, dormitory space, and vessels for half- or full-day field trips. The KML also holds collecting permits for small collections of many marine species. Some university classes have used the laboratory for an entire semester. Below are short summaries of the KML education facilities and a list of some recent class groups which have utilized the facilities.

Large dry lab, air-conditioned classroom with multimedia capabilities, and computer lab.
Wet laboratory with holding tanks for specimens, tables, and countertop work surfaces.
2 dorms sleep 24 students total in 4 separate bedrooms with full kitchen and laundry facilites.
Coral reef, mangroves, hard bottom and sea grass habitats are all within a short trip from KML.
Experienced boat captains can take as many as 18 passengers to local habitats for snorkeling, trawling, and/or wading.
